You don't need a silver fork to eat good food...

Really, there are so many fantastic restaurants and bars in Coco that we cannot list them all! These are really the tip of the iceberg for suggestions but it’s always nice to have some suggestions when planning your own trip. Below are some tried and tested options for you to start with but don’t limit yourself to just this list. There are so many incredible options right at your doorstep!

Breakfast/brunch:

Java – Amazing café that is under a 5-minute walk from both of our units. Delicious coffee and a wide variety of smoothies and milkshakes. Excellent food with lots of vegetarian options, great atmosphere, and friendly service.

Guayoyo Coffee House – One of my parents favourites while visiting CR. The coffee is extremely well made. The cafe is inviting inside and out. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. A wide variety of food for all dietary requirements.

Yummy Diner – A fairly new restaurant that offers tasty diner food. We think it’s worth noting that apart from their rising great reviews, they also only use packaging that is 100% biodegradable. If you are looking for homemade style food, check this location out.

Coco Waffles – If you have a sweet tooth, this is a must for their delicious waffles! You won’t be disappointed. The space is bright, staff is friendly, and music is great. There are also options for gluten and lactose intolerant individuals.

Lunch/Dinner:

Café de Playa - Charming and exactly what vacation is all about. Lunch or dinner overlooking the beach with spectacular drinks and great food! If you’re looking to watch the sunset over some delicious dinner, we certainly recommend treating yourself.

Garden Bar – This lovely restaurant is just off the beaten path. The name lives up to it’s reputation by surrounding gardens. If you would like to get away from the hustle and bustle of town and listen to some fantastic nightly entertainment, this is the place for you. Great food, excellent service and a change of scenery when needed.

Toucanoos – This California-style restaurant will delight you with its bright presentation in a warn and fun atmosphere. A great place to flavorful, fun and uncomplicated dishes. With plenty of vegetarian and kid-friendly options, you won’t be disappointed.

Johann Bistro – This restaurant has a little bit of everything to enjoy. Known for their delicious pizza, sushi and crepes. Seems like an odd array of cuisine but they often get great reviews on all three. Great location and wonderful staff; it’s worth a visit.

Papagayo Seafood – A highly reviewed restaurant that has fresh daily caught fish and lobster – great for any seafood lover! The atmosphere is casual and in the middle of the main strip. Friendly staff and flavourful food.

Happy Hour/Bar Food

Zi’s Lounge - Located in the heart of Playas del Coco, Zi Lounge is widely regarded as Coco's local hot spot for food, drink, and entertainment. A little on the expensive side, however very conveniently located with excellent staff and a wide range of food and drink on the menu.

Coconutz – Your neighbourhood Sports Bar and Micro-Brewery in an tropical setting complete with gorgeous local hard wood, trees growing through the floor, license plates from all over the world, surfboards hanging from our roof top, and of course… their famous swing sets. Good pub food and friendly staff.

Bambu Beach Bar - the ultimate party destination with a Latin Tiki interior and an instant feel good atmosphere. Great tropical cocktails and an outdoor dance floor right on Coco beach. Bambu offers a mix of live music as well as our amazing resident DJ’s. There is something for everyone at this bar!

Father Rooster Bar and Grill – This beachfront bar is located just outside of Coco in the next village, Ocotal. Amazing views, great food and friendly service. A rustic 1917 original home that was refurbished into this fabulous, casual bar. A must eat restaurant if venturing into Ocotal.

Fast Food

Frozen Yogurt – Yummy, delightful treats on the main strip

Pollolandia – Similar to a Popeyes, this is a great place for a quick meal

Coco Pizza Company – Outstanding pizza, quick service

International Cuisine

Hot Wok (Asian) – This is the go-to for locals and tourists alike when craving Asian cuisine. The restaurant is lovely and clean and the staff are wonderful. The food is fresh and very tasty. They serve an assortment of Chinese, Japanese and Philippine food.

Chorotacos (Mexican) – Incredible Mexican food located minutes away from our two units. The atmosphere is trendy, relaxed and the staff are very friendly with so much pride. The portions are amazing. You will not be disappointed in their menu selection. This restaurant is fresh, tasty and authentic for sure!

El Capricho Restaurant (Mexican) – Another very cool new Mexican restaurant in Coco. They opened in 2020 so unfortunately we haven’t had the pleasure of testing the food and drink out however, one trip advisor search and it’s safe to say, this is a really great stop when craving Mexican!

Villa Italia (Italian) - True Italian cuisine in Guanacaste. Sophisticated, intimate and relaxing environment where you can enjoy excellent Italian dishes. From typical regional appetizers, to homemade first courses according to grandmother’s recipes, to carefully selected meats and fresh fish.

Santorini (Greek) – Hands down, the best Greek restaurant in Town. The food is fresh and authentic. The staff are friendly and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. You will not be disappointed.

Le Coq (Lebanese) – Fantastic Mediterranean food and an owner that is very proud of his menu. The flavours and portions are impressive and affordable. Lots of vegetarian options on the menu.

**Some of these restaurants may have closed their doors temporarily due to the pandemic. Most restaurants on this list have strict Covid protocols in place to keep staff and guests safe while dining.**
